Givenchy Fall 2012 Couture
Riccardo Tisci is reaching new heights. Influence of the present day Gypsy lifestyle is obvious as ornate details decorate the luxurious fabrics in the Givenchy 2012 Couture Collection. This collection displayed a lifestyle that is pulled between the modern city streets and the dated traditions of the culture one was raised in. The clothing, the fabric, the colors, speak for themselves. The column gowns proved that a woman can never be too tall, the body can never be too elongated, and the fabric can never be too decorative. Tisci has bought us beaded fringes designed by hand, a black leather fringe dress that cascades from the shoulders to beyond the models feet.
A velvet floor length cape adorned with a mosaic pattern created from red and black beads subtly screamed 'royalty'. Beautiful unadorned nude dresses with cashmere and wool skirts presented with cropped fur coats blended seamlessly in and offered a kind of calmness - cohesion - to the collection. A black halter-neck gown containing a built-in cape that was decked out in a multitude of sequins on its inside conveyed a regal air. Tisci has managed to combine the feel of an ancient society with a new modern, feminine touch; a touch so delicate, so intricate, that the use of a magnifying glass feels needed in order spot all its magnificence.
