A More Grown-Up Forever 21

I know I can't possibly be the only girl over the age of 24 who feels slightly odd shopping at Forever 21! While I do most of my shopping online, I do enjoy shopping at the local mall every once in a while. The thing about shopping at Forever 21 is the fact that I see so many young girls (middle/high school age) also shopping in there, and to be honest, I believe that is their intended demographic. While looking through the racks on racks on racks of clothing, I repeatedly pick something up, stare it for 30 seconds, and stuff it back. Reason being: Sadly, I think I've become too old for their clothes. Needless to say, I managed to leave the store with three totally awesome items, then came home and raided their online website in the pursuit of more grown-up girly clothes. And I am happy to report that YES there is a way to shop at Forever 21 without looking like you're "trying to be young." I'm just glad that I can shop there and still be taken seriously.

Why The Obsession With Street Style Blogs

It's no secret that street style blogs have rapidly multiplied in the last couple of years. I remember constantly checking the site Street Peeper for inspiration mainly because it was one of the only blogs that focused on regular individuals wearing regular clothes going about their regular routines. Although the street style blogsphere is becoming over-saturated and shallow (that's for another post), the influence these blogs have had in the internet world is powerful. Since the beginning of the blog Street Peeper, I am continually amazed by the growth of street fashion blogs. Which led me to the question: Why are we so obsessed with what other people are wearing? I picked the avenues of my brain apart and visited countless blogs geared toward personal style searching for the answer to that question. I compiled my list of reasons why street fashion blogs have become so popular.

She has on cute clothes, and we all want cute clothes, right! This is really a no-brainer. Who hasn't seen someone walking down the street and wondered where they got their shirt or dress or shoes from. Street style blogs introduce many people to retail shops that they weren't previously aware of. Often, many street fashionistas are wearing pieces that are more than affordable, and as a result people relate more to bloggers than they do to models or celebrities.

Due to the influx of street blogs, we're able to generate new fashion ideas into our current wardrobes enabling us to expand on our current items. While, yes, this does include purchasing new items, I'm referring more along the lines of finding new things to do with the wardrobe we already have. Seeing the way a blogger puts their wardrobe together can make your brain shift gears, and you start seeing outfits in your closet that you were previously blind to. So technically, we should thank these street style bloggers for helping us expand our wardrobe without spending any cash. It's as if we have our personal, free, stylists!

Street style blogs tend to serve as a type of trend forecaster. We see the season trends shown on the runway months before its actually time to wear them, but street blogs remind us of the trend once the hoopla of fashion week dies down. These blogs show us how to translate runway fashions and make them wearable. It creates a kind of realism in the fashion world by showing us that we too can rock those lovely pieces we saw during fashion week.

Recently, the staying power of street style blogs has come under scrutiny, but there is no denying the power these blogs have over designers and consumers alike.
